Porridge on the StoveRecipe for how to make Porridge on the stove. For a recipe on making porridge in the microwave, click here. Step 1: Put 1/2 a cup of rolled oats into a cup, and cover with water. Leave overnight. This makes porridge of the best quality. If you want to have the porridge right now, you can leave the rolled oats to soak for ten minutes.
Step 2: Put the rolled oats in a medium sized pot. Add a 1/4 cup of milk.
Step 3: Prepare 3/4 of a cup of boiling water. Use more water if you want a more "liquidy" porridge.
Step 4: Add the boiling water to the pot, and turn on the element/gas to full.
Step 5: Boil the porridge for about 3 minutes, or until the desired consistency is achieved. Step 6: Pour the porridge into a suitably sized bowl.
Step 7: Add any desired toppings. I like a banana, frozen or fresh raspberries and brown sugar. If you chose to make you porridge thicker, add some milk as well.
Step 8: Enjoy :) This recipe was developed from the recipe on the back of a Harraways packet of rolled oats.
