Check out this beast!!!

750/1250/2000w of PURE POWER! And it takes 5 seconds to reach maximum heat. Convector Heaters FTW!

I bought a 1000w "Red Stamp" Oil filled column heater from The Warehouse. It is a piece of shit. After 8 minutes the thermostat gets to it's maximum temperature and it turns the heater off. Therefore the heater never gets hot enough to change the temperature of the room significantly. My computer is a better heater. I'm going to take it back to The Warehouse tonight...hopefully the refund will go smoothly...

Update: GREAT SUCCESS!! Refund has been completed. Note to self: do not buy something like this ever again.

Star Trek Legacy: The game was way too short. The combat was fun (if simple), and the missions were good (except when your fleet just sits there while your ship is getting OWNED). Unfortunately the movies and most of the missions that were planned for the game were apparently cut, so the story makes no sense and the missions just seem mostly random. Which was disappointing. The game was good, but it could have been so much better.

Act Of War: Direct Action: This is the best RTS game I've played in years. Similar in style to Command and Conquer (lots of cutscenes), my only complaint is that it was too short. Play it now, it doesn't cost very much since it's over a year old.

Neverwinter Nights: Just started playing this. (I've played Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 plus the expansions before). Currently a level 5 Fighter. Long Sword +1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Babylon 5: The best sci-fi series, up there with Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek. I'm half way through season 2.

Prison Break: This is an awesome TV series as well. Currently half way through season 1.

Today's Random Picture: An actual Ham Burger!

Christmas is almost over!!! Just need to go into work once more tonight for a few hours (hopefully less) to re-arrange the end displays for the final CHRISTMAS RUSH!!!1111111

I started playing Star Trek: Legacy yesterday, and it is quite possibly the best Star Trek game with space combat to date! It is not without it's flaws, and if these are patched in the near future it would make the game even better.

The only problems I have seen so far are:

  • Docking with a space dock to repair is broken. Your ship can repair itself, so I guess this isn't really too much of an issue, gameplay wise.
  • The default brightness is set to stupidly high levels, making the game look like shit. Everything looks washed out, and you can't see the lighting on the ships properly. I recommend the value I've set it to which you can see below in the screenshots.
  • The targeting system needs some more functionality. At the moment, you press SPACEBAR to target the closest ship, and if you hold down the SPACEBAR and scroll the mousewheel, you can select one of the closest 8 (?) ships. The problem is that if there are more than 8 ships onscreen, you won't be able to target the thing you actually want to target. Also you can't just put a ship in the centre of the screen, press a key, and have it targeted. You have to scroll through all the ships/objects, which can be quite tiresome.
  • Sometimes the ship you're controlling and the other ships in your fleet won't go to warp immediately. While sometimes they will line up on the course immediately, other times they sort of try to line up but turn too far, and then they slowly try to get onto the right course... by which time your other ships have already arrived at the destination and are being attacked...
  • The manual is lacking. Some of the key assignments are different from those in the game and some features are not adequately explained. There is even a spelling mistake on one of the first pages.
  • There is no in game save. I don't mind if there is no quicksave, but there should be checkpoint saves as the missions range from 10-30 minutes each.

I have experienced no crashes or actual bugs so far (apart from the space dock one), but of course the support forum is full of people saying the game is poorly coded garbage (as you'd expect, since a support forum is for people experiencing problems). To these people I say: Buy a real computer* :)

The rest of the game is great, with superb voiceovers by all 5 of the Captains, great modelling of the ships (the Enterprise NCC-1701 Refit is my favourite), and missions which are varied and most often challenging. The graphics are also really good (once you turn the brightness down.)

Here are some screenshots:

Enterprise NCC-1701 Refit and a fleet of other starships.

December 2006. On December 1 I heard my first Christmas Carol at about 8am. Obviously they didn't waste any time... 22 more days of Christmas Carols. I can't wait for them to be finished with. Christmas in a supermarket is about a much fun as having a rabbit jumping around and eating the sundeck above your computer room which makes a hell of a noise... (see today's random picture below.)

If you are still eating Pink Salmon I recommend you upgrade to Red Salmon immediately.

I tried the Supreme Commander Beta. It runs absolutely terrible. And at this stage the game is about as much fun as watching paint dry. Everything is S O  D A M N  S L O W ! ! ! ! ! ! !  Basically the game is just a race (albeit a slow one) to build up a strong enough economy so that you can make 20 experimental units in 5 minutes and go and kill the other person before they build 20 experimental units and come and kill you. I think I prefer Total Annihilation over this. Perhaps when it goes to retail it will be a better game. At least, it better be, since I already pre-ordered it.

I've started playing Act of War: Direct Action, which is a damn good Real Time Strategy game, more along the lines of Command and Conquer. It has cool cut scenes and awesome gameplay. Go and play it now.

Pariah: The worst game for PC's EVER! This game was so shit I uninstalled it and threw the thing in the bin. Absolute trash. Of course, it was an XBOX port, so I guess that tells you something. The weapons sounded like shit, looked like shit, did shit damage, and were as accurate as shit. Avoid this game at all costs. You should destroy your computer and chop off your arms if you are even tempted to play this game.

Chrome: Meh. While this game looked alright, and was sort of fun, this was all ruined by enemies that had 120% accuracy. Another one I uninstalled...

I finished Season 1 of Babylon 5 and I watched episode 5 of Season 2 last night. Babylon 5 ROCKS. An actual story, rather than just random shit every episode (Enterprise I'm looking at YOU.)

Today's Random Picture: A rabbit which is devouring the deck and making a fucking annoying noise above my computer room as it jumps around:

05/11/2006: 9:12am

Yesterday I finished The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay. The game was quite short, but it was fun. I started playing in the morning and before I knew it it was 5pm, which is always a good sign.

I finished Prey last weekend, which was awesome.

Also Call of Duty 2, which is the best WWII game EVER. Play it right now. (On PC...consoles suck.)

Today I think I'll start playing Heroes of Might and Magic V.

MMMMMMMM Streaky Bacon.......... cooked on the Foreman!

I seriously hope everyone has seen Snakes on a Plane at the cinema...

So today at work the server went down for about 4 hours. Of course that wasn't a problem because the backup server just took over. What? There isn't a backup server? Oh... So I guess I'm supposed to just waste time for four hours and then stay late because the server went down and there wasn't a backup server... Well I guess that makes sense...

And to top it all off my five hundred year old dot matrix loud as fuck annoying dot matrix printer BROKE!

Well I did have a good cup of tea and the bacon was awesome so I guess that almost makes up for it...

Today's Random Picture: Big LOL!
